Sunday, Nov. 15 Nearly 1,900 people live on the streets of Austin on any given night. Of that number, more than 300 individuals are considered chronically homeless. And life on the streets not only can be challenging, it also can be deadly. Up to 50 percent of chronically homeless people are at risk of premature death, according to recent studies. A joint investigation by the American-Statesman and Noticias Univision 62 found that almost 80 homeless people died in Austin in 2013 and 2014; many of them died preventable deaths.
